Dr. Frances de la Camara is a board-eligible ophthalmologist and fellowship-trained pediatric and adult strabismus specialist. She joined Eye Surgery Associates in 2026, providing comprehensive eye care to patients of all ages—from infants to adults. As a fluent Spanish speaker and Cuban-American, Dr. de la Camara takes pride in communicating clearly and connecting deeply with the diverse families she
serves.
A native of Coral Gables, Florida, Dr. de la Camara earned her medical degree from Florida International University’s Herbert Wertheim College of Medicine, where she graduated as a College of Medicine Scholar. She completed her ophthalmology residency at Atrium Health Wake Forest Baptist in Winston-Salem, North Carolina, followed by a specialized Pediatric and Adult Strabismus fellowship at
Lurie Children’s Hospital of Chicago (Northwestern University).
Dr. de la Camara brings a rich foundation in clinical excellence, academic research, and community leadership. Her clinical insights have been presented at major national conferences, including the American Association for Pediatric Ophthalmology and Strabismus (AAPOS) where she was a research finalist.
Dedicated to mentorship and global health, she served as President of the American Medical Women’s Association at FIU and participated in the inaugural WakeECHO Global Ophthalmology pediatric brigade to Honduras—providing complex strabismus surgeries and surgical care to underserved communities.
She is an active member of the American Academy of Ophthalmology, the American Association for Pediatric Ophthalmology and Strabismus, Women in Ophthalmology, the American Medical Association, and the Dade County Medical Association.
Outside of the clinic, Dr. de la Camara stays active as a dedicated CrossFit athlete—having competed in the 2024 and 2026 CrossFit Quarterfinals—and loves baking traditional flan in her free time.
